PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Extends from US 17A to near Trolley Road, approximately 5 miles

Realigns Dorchester Road at US 17A to improve the intersection

Widens Dorchester Road from two to five lanes with 4' paved and 6' grass shoulders from US 17A to approximately 0.14 miles west of Orangeburg Road

Widens Dorchester Road from two to five lanes with curb & gutter and 10' multi-use sidewalk on the north side from Oak Drive to Trolley Road

Lengthens the culvert at Sawmill Branch
PROJECT NEED
Due to existing traffic congestion and associated delays, the purpose of the proposed project is to improve traffic flow as well as reduce congestion and delays by constructing additional travel lanes. In addition, bicycles and pedestrians will be accommodated with better accessibility. Intersection improvements will be constructed at US 17A, SC 165 ( Bacons Bridge Road), and S-22 ( Orangeburg Road).
The table shown compares the 2004 Average Daily Traffic Counts (ADT) with the projected ADT for 2030. The ADT for 2030 includes the completion of other sales tax projects.

CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE (30 DAY LOOK AHEAD)
PROJECT GENERAL
- Contractor will continue clearing operations on both phases of the project.
- Full depth patching operations will continue.
- Temporary markings will continue as needed.
- Contractor will continue to work with utility providers to relocate in conflict utilities.
- Contractor will secure required permits for the borrow pit to be located at Sta. 140 and commence pit operations.
- Contractor will continue relocation of the moving items for the project.
PHASE 1
- Contractor will continue clear and grub operations in the area from Sta. 324 to Bacons Bridge Road.
- Clearing in the area between Sta. 310 to Sta. 318 has been held up due to utility conflict with AT&T. Contractor and AT&T are working on a solution and, once finalized, will present to Engineers for review.
- Contractor plans to demolish wooden barn at Sta. 244+53.
- Contractor plans to remove wooden fence at Sta. 256+75 to 257+55.
- Contractor plans to commence work on Saw Branch Creek Culvert October 10, 2011.
- Silt fence will continue in Phase 1.
- Resetting of fences and moving items will continue.
- Survey and layout will continue.
- Erosion control will continue.
PHASE 2
- Clearing and grubbing as well as installation of silt fence will continue.
- Fence resetting and moving of required items will continue.
- Contractor plans to commence cutting of ditches and installing drive pipe.
- Survey and layout will continue.
- Erosion control will continue.
